Rematch with Galaxy in MLS Cup final brings same result
|
Frisco, Texas - The New England Revolution got their second shot at winning the MLS Cup and again it came against the Los Angeles Galaxy. While the teams have greatly changed since 2002, the end result was the same. The Galaxy won their second ever MLS Cup 1-0 in overtime thanks to a goal by Guatemalan Guillermo Ramirez in the 107th minute. Their only other MLS Cup coming in 2002 when Guatemalan Carlos Ruiz scored the game winner in the 113th minute in another 1-0 overtime win. The Revs went into the match as favorites with the better regular season record (17-7-8, 59 points) than the Galaxy (13-13-6, 45 points). The Revs scored 11 more goals than the Galaxy over the regular season, while allowing 8 less. None of this mattered in the final, however, as the Galaxy were the better team on the day and kept the Revs from winning their first ever championship.
